This journal article directly links a reason why the Australia Twin closed down in 1987. It states that there is doubt surrounding the cinema as there is talk of redeveloping the âAustralia Hotelâ above it. This information gives me one reason why the Australia Twin could not stay open. The hotel appeared to be competition for business and it was a decision between the two on what should be redeveloped. This links in with the fact that when the cinema closed in 1987 it was under the pretence that it was to be âredevelopedâ, however it never was. This is useful evidence that can be used for my research question of reasons why the cinema shut down in 1987. At the time that this article was written there were many other cinemas struggling to stay afloat. This is shown through the writer listing off names of places up for sale and looking for tenors. This may have been a time when many cinemas were struggling financially. It is useful for me to know other cinemas struggling at the same time as I can then see reasons behind their failure. There may be links between the âAustralia Twinâ and these other cinemas or I may find ones that are flourishing at the time and then be able to pin point what they offered and how they sold their cinema to the consumer.

Synopsis |
Under the heading of ânewâ cinemas on the circuit in Victoria the author speaks of the exciting opening of the âHoyts 8â in Maribyrnong, the date of when it is expected to open. The rest of the news under Victoria has a less positive note with many cinemas looking for new tenders, or up for sale. The Australia Twin is mentioned in the first paragraph as âunder threatâ as the âfuture of the Australia Twin is in doubtâ.
