Great introduction into the history of the Regent Cinema and Theatre. This journal is very helpful for anyone seeking an overview of the history, interior design and architectural significance of the Regent Melbourne. Nothing is spared in the Authors description of the interior, painting a realistic picture for the reader. Issue 4 (p.9) notes that, âGold, Ivory and Coffee Brown form the colour scheme, with Gold brocade tapestry to the walls.â This begins a great insight into the fashionable and expensive patterns of that time. (ThomasB)
Issue 6 - Article 'The story of The Regent Melbourne, Part 4' describes, in one of its paragraphs, the closure of various cinema venues in Victoria including a description of the demolition of the Regent Fitzroy which was previously known as the Solway Theatre.(AshG)

Notes on issue 6. |
The paragraph in issue number 6 contains some insightful information on the Regent Fitzroy venue, its described as An 'old Fitzroy landmark' which was opened in 1929 (originally built by the architect Charles Bohringer) and owned by Mr. Giuseppe Fodera. It was also built to the specifications of Hoyts Theatres. The paragraph interestingly notes that the venue was built to the design specifications of Hoyts but they did not become full owners of the property until 1948. It also noted that for the last three years of the building standing it was left for vandals to destroy before it was demolished. (AshG)
