Comments
An interesting read, particularly regarding the difficulties of a film where the concept of genre is elastic, and thus difficult to define.
Synopsis
Hall recounts the difficulties experienced by director Peter Weir and co-producers Hal and Jim McElroy when "..reeling from the success of Alvin Purple, distributors were telling Peter Weir... that yes, they knew that sex comedies worked but they weren't so sure about what he and his producers... were trying to sell with The Cars that Ate Paris"(45)
