This article is engaging, particularly whereby Weir distances Australian films from the need to represent an inherent 'Australianness'. Especially curious is the way in which such statements were considered to be peculiar, if even bizarre by then contemporary journalists! |
Synopsis |
In this article, Weir states that via 'The Cars that Ate Paris', he has "...opened an area for Australian films that depict ideas and not necessarily Australia or Australian things"(22)
The journalist states that "...Mr Weir said he would start work on another film in February called 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' based on a novel by Joan Lindsay"(22).
Weir comments that "I like working on stories about people in enclosed atmospheres or spaces...there is a certaim bizareness of my films. I hope they are individual, entertaining and a reflection of my personality"(22) |
