Title Can't stop the musicals
Author(s)Dave Kehr
Volume 9
Issue 7
Page Number 33 - 37
Comments This article first and foremost relates to the 'new image' that musicals have created. It's very interesting to see Kehr develop the relationship between the musicals of old and the transition and patterns of the new.

It's pretty much available and a recommended read!
Synopsis
Speaks of today's musicals compared to the conventional classical Hollywood musicals - or what is referred to as the musical's 'golden age'. Kehr examines the conventions of the musical genre and how these have been reinvented in the contemporary musicals, taking the reader through a selection of films, from the first musical to those of more recent times.

The main films are: Footloose
Flasdance
Saturday Night Fever
