Comments Head On is an adaption of Christos Tsiolkas's novel Loaded, the story of 24 hours in the life of a gay Greek boy in Melbourne. Kokkinos was imediately taken by the energy and style of the book. "I really responded to it, to the character of Ari, the way in which Christos had explored Melbourne landscape, The unbashed Greekness of it." she was also attracted to the way Tsiolkas dealt with political and philosophical themes within the frame of the story.

Christos tsiolkas trusted Ana and understood that she and her co-writers had to go through their own process to find the best way of expressing the film filmically. Christos Tsiolkas was involved in a number of ways, he gave support and feedback on each draft. The adaption process took roughly a year and the script went through 6 drafts.

Christos also gave guidence on the set with Alex Dimitriades's character Ari.

Christos Tsiolkas was born in Melbourne in 1965. He spent his childhood in an inner-city Greek ghetto and then discovered the adolescent rites of Anglo Australians when he attended Blackburn Highschool.

In 1987 at Melbourne University, Christos Tsiolkas edited the student Newspaper Farrago.

Since leaving university he supported himself in a variety of jobs but remains committed to writing as a vocation, with occasional ventures into super 8 filmmaking.

Synopsis Ari is nineteen, unemployed and a poofter who doesn't want to be gay. He is looking for something-anything-to take him away from his aimless existence in suburban Melbourne. He doesn't believe in anyone or anything, except the power of music. All he wants to do is dance, take drugs, have sex, and change the world.

For Ari, all the orthodoxies of family, sex, politics and work have collapsed. Caught between the traditional Greek world of his parents and friends and the alluring, distructive world of clubs, chemicals and anonymous sex, all Ari can do is ease the pain in the only ways he knows how.

Loaded has musical epigraphs to each section, snippets of songs from Sister Sledge and the Pet Shop Boys, John Lennon and Nirvana. It's a book you can dance to: it's prose is shot through with the songs Ari listens to on his walkman, and hears at parties and clubs.
