The article title is placed beneath the comment "Directed and starring Aboriginal women, the Louis Nowra black comedy "Radiance" tells a universal story. The article is both insightful and informative. |
Synopsis |
An on set description of a scene was a brilliant way to start, capturing the essence and atmosphere during the filming of "Radiance". It touches on issues in relation to an Indigenous film industry, one that may be seperate from commerical product. There are quotes directly from Rachel Perkins providing a some career history as well as an insight into the demands faced during the production. The risk factor was large given that this was a first feature for both Rachel Perkins and Director of Photography , Warwick Thornton. The budget was 1.5 million and in commerical terms this amount is conservative. There was an important emphasis on Aboriginal actors who were provided with "meaty" roles and a great opportunity for Rachel to direct a feature which was "something she couldn't turn down." |
