Comments The contents of this article are more interesting in light of controversy thaat came to light in August 2001, whereby the ATO disallowed the film 10BA tax concessions - making the Australianness' or not of the film a more central issue.
Synopsis Some controversy had developed in Cannes, with some critics labeling Moulin Rouge as an American film. Baz Luhrmann defends his position that the film is Australian, pointing out that if US-funding is the criteria, then many films previously regarded as 'Australlian' would have to be disregarded.
