Title NSW: Valhalla listed on National Trust Register
Author(s)Vera Devai
Publication Date 09-09-2005
Comments Valhalla cinema, Sydney.

Independent cinemas.

Film exhibition industry.
Synopsis Devai reports on Sydney's art-house Valhalla Cinema being placed on the National Trust Register. The writer notes that although this won't stop the venue from being redeveloped or demolished, the National Trust were merely trying to acknowledge the significance of the site. Graham Quint, deputy conservation director of the National Trust said: "the fact that we have stated the significance of the building pretty clearly indicates what our position would be if somebody were to purchase it and build units. We would oppose that." Quint also noted that "these cinemas do need some sort of government help and they get that in all other states expect NSW."
