| Synopsis |
An American article, Gail Koch explores the film exhibition industry and declining cinema attendance rates. The writer interviews several people on their movie-viewing preferences and finds (along with the support of a recent national AP-AOL poll) that most people prefer to stay home and watch DVDs on their home entertainment systems. The major reasons for this are cost, and Koch breaks down the typical cinema visit and compares it with the cheaper convenience of a rented DVD. Koch also suggests that a lack of movie blockbusters in recent times have had a detrimental affect on the industry- "This year's blockbusters -- movies like Star Wars and Batman Begins -- have not been enough to pull Hollywood out of its slump." |
