Comments Cited in Bertrand (1989:167)
Synopsis This review suggests 'Thoroughbred' plces Australia on the 'threshold' of world ranking, and as a film it can be considered equal to much of Hollywood's output. This is also considered problematic, and the author infers that Australia need not look overseas for narratives or inspiration. The end climax is critisised for being slightly overdone, and the acting is critised although Twelvetrees is described as "delicately natural, and plays the part of a pretty horse-loving Australian girl with refreshing charm".
