Statistical data about the industry.
Compares data from similar censuses (or censi) conducted in 1993-94 and 1996-97. |
| Synopsis |
A Report by the Australian Bereau of Statistics on the film exhibition industry in the financial year of 1999-2000. Statistician Dennis Trewin draws several interesting conclusions when comparing similar censuses conducted in the years 1993-94 and 1996-97. Some of these insights include that although the size of the industry (i.e. the number of cinemas) has decreased in the 1990s, the number of cinema screens and seats has actually risen significantly- suggesting a rise in the number of cinema multiplexes. Trewin also notes that the average box office taking per paid admission was $8.60 in 1999-2000 compared to $7.50 in 1996-97. |
