Unfair major distributor practises
Synopsis Collins reports on small independent cinema The Metro and its' owner, David McGowan's, complaint to the ACCC about unfair major distributor practises. McGowan claims that his cinema is going slowly broke as they have to wait for "up to 30 weeks" after Australian premieres, for prints of new releases films. McGowan claims that the movie-goer will be the big loser if smaller independents like The Metro were forced to close under the vertical integration of the Australian distribution-exhibition industry. Collins cites a leaked ACCC discussion paper when she states that the goverment watchdog said that vertical integration had had "a detrimental effect on the industry."
