Comments ACCC voluntary code

Australian distribution-exhibition industry

Vertical integration
Synopsis Barber explores the ACCC's investigation, recommendations, and proposed "voluntary code" over the distribution-exhibition industry in Australia. In the United States, vertical integration was banned after World War II when Hollywood studios were ordered to sell off their cinema interests. The ACCC found that the 'three majors' (Village Roadshow, Greater Union and Hoyts) controlled 70-75 per cent of Australian screens and took 70 per cent of box office revenue.
