Synopsis Popular culture is under attack for its toxic recipe of violence, carnage and 'dubious subject matter'. The question of 'have we gone too far?' is raised and the representations of violence in ancient tragedy and myths is differentiated from representations in popular culture today as it functioned to instruct and purge distriburbing forces whereas much violence today is mindless, insensitive, gratuitous and arrogant.
