Comments This is a colourful and very personal account of one man's journey through the 'teenpics' of the eighties. It is a terrific source in any study of the 'teenpic' genre offering a great, easy to read account of films aimed at an American teenage audience during the 1980's.In this sense, if it is American historical context you are after for your study on films for or/and about young people, this would be the place to go! Especially considering that the 'teenpic' is largely an American phenomenon which exploded in the 1980's. I found it useful to when it came to exploring Australia's response and adaptation to this popular film style.

It is very easy to come by at any library and I highly recommend it!
Synopsis In this chapter, as the title suggests, Bernstien is widely concerned with Director and Writer John Hughes contribution to the 80's teenpic genre. He asserts that Hughes is somewhat the founder of the modern 'teenpic' and offers a variety of critiques on each of his films and of his 'star performers (Miss Ringwald most specifically)! Throughout the chapter he examines the genre's appeal, thematic concerns, setting and character stereotypes while offering an insightful exploration into the film genre's sociological role.
