Not particulary interesting in terms of an evaluation of Chopper but moreso as a view on contemporary Australian film and how Chopper does and doesn't fit this context. |
Synopsis |
Positive review of the film which becomes increasingly positive when compared to other contemporary Australian films.
About a quarter of the article is devoted to attacking Shine and praising Chopper for 'not' being Shine. Bana is praised for 'not' playing a dopey, socially-inept fail-male like other central characters in recent Australian films. Chopper's humour is also complemented and thankfully that comment is not followed by or more likely, introduced by a grumble about the lack of humour in other Australian features. |
