Title Portrait of a violent life
Author(s)Suellen Hinde
Publication Date 30-07-2000
Page Number 21
Synopsis Hinde identifies Chopper as one of the most controversial Australian films and under a 'brutality' heading comments on Bana's views. According to Bana there are two arguements surrounding the film - firstly a film about someone like Chopper should not have been made and secondly that the film glorifies him.

Bana has a problem with the second arguement and refuses to discuss the film with anyone who hasn't seen it.

Bana begins of the affects of growing up in a violent environment (Read began violent acts at early age) under the second heading 'Beating'. Following Reads appearance on ABC's Elle McFeast in 1998 the media backlash contributed to Film Victoria's withdrawal.

Dominik claims distributor risks were more concerned with first-time director and producer and Bana as lead rather than moral issues. "I don't think distributors are terribly concerned about moral issues. They just want to sell tickets".

Dominik hopes the film has a violent feeling claiming most films today do not, despite the fact they depict violence.
