Interview with Peter Weir found on the Internet, but could not find the hard copy. |
Synopsis |
Begins with a quote from Peter Weir talking about how he thinks life is "outrageous", and The Truman Show is a reflection of that. He talks about a "crazy" idea he had for the film, where every theatre in the world where the film screened would have installed a video camera, and at one point in the film the projectionist would cut the power and cut to a shot of the viewers in the theatre and then back to the movie. "But I thought it was best to leave that idea untested," he says. Weir draws parallels with the death of Princess Diana, in that the world loved her, and they were outraged at the paparazzi because they were seen to be the cause of her death, yet the same people were reading the tabloids and soaking up as much information about her as they could. |
