Opinion piece written in first person talking about The Truman Show and a similar film, Bulworth, and their effect on the audience. |
Synopsis |
Scathing attack on the way in which society has allowed itself to be continually duped by the media. The writer says that Peter Weir's direction "treats the village with winking mockery", but he further argues that this mockery is not restricted to the actors within the village, and that the spectators who are permanently tuned in to the show are also treated by Weir with contempt because they have allowed themselves to become obsessed with a product created by the media. The writer offers a provocative concept; that "we are duped into believing we are duped". |
