CAARP is an extensive database containing pages on myriad of Australian venues, films and companies, and is accessible and easy to use for anyone. The information provided in each Venue entry includes statistics on ownership, building dates, dates of operation, location: including address, suburb and state, and number of screens.
On top of these stats, the CAARP features a body of text composed of information gathered from outside credited sources. For the State Film theatre, this body of text discusses the building process of the venue as a subsidiary of the State Film Centre, talks about the first screening of itâs opening to the public, and how travelling showmen were sometimes dispatched to show the venues films in other, more remote regions of the state. Interestingly, it also has figures on the success of the venue, showing that after it;s first year, the Stet Film Theatre increased its audience viewership from under 230,000 to over 4,800,000.
As the CAARP is solely a statistical and fact-based information source, it doesnât offer any arguments or opinions based on the information it provides, but that allows for the text to remain impartial and comprehensively accurate. The sources the CAARP rely on are generally primary sources, such as a 1969 information sheet published by the State Film Centre itself, and a retrospective Cinema Record report on the venue. This process of fact gathering, rather than information analysis keeps the information posted from being influenced by outside theories or opinions. The site credits all its external sources. |
