This is a series of newsletters detailing the history of the Athenaeum Hall. Part one of the the newsletter is a detailed look at the Hall itself discussing the people involved in building the Hall such as the cause of its construction by the formation of the band of hope in that area, as well as information about the Hall's designer Thomas Serpell. A photograph of the origianl building just after construction is also in this section. Part two of these newsletters focusus on the library section of the hall and how the halls functions have changed as well as documenting the additions which have been built onto the hall. There is also discussion on the historical significance as the first public hall in the district but also how that significance is weakened because of the extensions made to the original building. |
