Used as a resource for David Strattonâs book âThe Last New Wave: The Australian Film Revivalâ it contains a fantastic review on the way the book shapes the Australian New Wave and the film industry that it has been known as. The writer Karen Jaehne puts emphasis on the fact that the book is very much focused on how the industry of Australian film was made from being practically non-existent, into being made a commercial money-making industry.
Especially useful in this article is the small portion of review that Jaehne gives Strattonâs area of the book devoted to film personalities that were not given enough critical acclaim at the time. She writes that it is important to have personalities like Tim Burstall whom discovered a way to create his own production company rather than be criticised through the lack of Australian film and lack of knowledge in making and supporting Australian film companies, practices and the people who work in the arts.
Jaehne makes a point that Stratton was not born in Australia, and therefore that the book is seen from outsidersâ eyes, and this is particularly important for studying the film industry in Australia, especially around the late 1960âs to 1970âs.
