Comments Another article taken from urban file, reviews Ten Canoes in an entirely different light. The theme of life and death throughout the film is extremely important , which Lousie Keller goes into great depth discussing. The information within the article describes the breathtaking innovative style and how this aligns with the very fabric of our indigenous culture. The ideas of Aboriginal culture are one of the key themes for my field, therefore this article holds a variety of key information. Rather than viewing this as a film, the review views is as a journey, where we are taken into a world we have never seen before. The resource is clearly well researched, with Keller going into great depth on the films cinematography, and its use of narrative as a means of expression. Another key theme found in the article regards the role of men and women in the film. This is an interesting idea that could be used in my field, where discussion on gender roles and inequality are seen firsthand before white settlement in Australia, and whether these roles have changed over time could be the underlying question. This would allow me to compare a recent Aboriginal film with Ten Canoes and contrast these gender roles. This idea and the idea of death are the most prominent underlying ideas throughout the text. The idea that dying is not a solitary occurance, but one in which the tribes in the film participate in because if supports the soul that searches its way to another place. This theme would be an interesting take on the film, where the use of photographs and artworks could represent the Aboriginal view on life and death. It could also align with ideas of Aboiriginal culture and beliefs, which is what my field will be based on.
