Comments Peter Fogarty, in this document focuses on the progression of Cinemas within St Kilda from as early as the St Kilda Theatre opening night in 1911 to the National theatre in 1997. There is a lot of information here that is helpful to many people particularly those interested in the history of Cinemas, St Kilda Culture and all the venues that are mentioned within the document. Such venues include, The Astor, The Palais, The Memorial Hall and of course, The Victory Theatre. The article was almost a timeline that followed the events that lead to all the developments within each venue. Peter Fogarty is such an expert when it comes down to the history of Theatres, especially St Kilda theatres. The focus on each particular theatre gives a brief outline of the history that entails and the building themselves. It is quite helpful for anyone who is researching these buildings as it gives you a basic outline and can help with the direction that you take your further research. While it does not state too much of the films that were shown there, it focuses mainly on the development on each venues. There is a wide amount of information used for other sections that could be helpful and the fact that it is set out in chapters in a chronological order makes the document quite an enjoyable and informative unchallenging read. For my research, it helped with the basis and gave me direction of where I wanted to head with my question once I figured it out as there is quite a lot for architecture and developments there.
