One of the things that CATHS was able to find about the Metro Twin was a nice photograph that was on one of the pages of a journal article by the Cinema Record. Not much is known about this journal article. It is really difficult that there is not much information about the Metro Twin on the pages where the photo is showed. Fine, the photo is probably there only because it shows a drive-in because they are writing about drive-ins. The question to ask though is why pick this cinema and not another drive-in that is still open? On the caption on the article it says, 'The giant Metro Twin Clayton, for much of its life the biggest and best drive-in in Victoria' It says that but it does not tell us WHY it was considered the best. Fortunately Kilderry's page on his website, Drive-ins Downunder helps the reader understand why this drive-in was popular but this article could have done the same.
All it mentions why other drive-ins were popular. Mainly because 'prices were generally more affordable' (Cinema Record 2007) and that they were very family friendly.
It does shed some light though about how the food was prepared at drive-ins that makes it a bit easier to think about Kilderry's tale of how at the Metro Twin a lot of food was made 'and it was as big as a supermarket' (Kilderry 2011) It would be a good idea to focus more on Kilderry's site than on this article because although Kilderry shows a lot of bias on his site, the reader will feel like they will gain more knowledge from him than this journal article.
It would have been good if the single page of this article that was found by CAARP could have used more sources and statistics. If more of it had been found these comments page probably have held a different opinion. (Caroline Beaney) |
