Two men give opposing accounts of a fight which took place outside the Lyric Fitzroy. They met at a hotel in Smith Street, Collingwood and were drinking with a group of others until closing time. While walking "across Richmond Park to the Motordrome" an argument broke out and in front of "the Lyric Theatre and Birmingham Hotel" Leslie Murray Mason was knocked unconscious and awoke later to find his overcoat and wallet containing 6/ missing. Leslie Edwards was later arrested with the coat and wallet. "A witness said that he had seen Edwards, who he knew, engaged in a struggle with another man near the Lyric Theatre." The case was presided over by Judge Wasley and the "jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and Edwards was discharged". |
