This website is created by Victoria State as Media release. It introduces reopen of the Westgarth theatre on 29th August, 2006 after extensive restoration and redevelopment, the theatre was shifted from a single-screen cinema to âa three-screen complexâ. The website mainly provides a lot of comments about the reopen from Minister for the Arts, Mary Delahunty. Here, the theatre is called âThe Grand Lady of Cinemaâ.
Delahunty completely praises the event and expects Westgarthâs further popularity in the 21st century. It is considered that the theatreâs successful survival for more than 80 years is thanks to the passion of the previous and current owners of the Westgarth, and support from local people. The artistic 85-year-old building is regarded as an important icon within the Northcote community.
However, this article only describes perspective from level of Minister for Arts which is very optimistic. It does not mention the background of the refurbishment such as the budget and the reasons of the restoration. Although Delahunty highly expects that thriving art sector in the area will attracts people by pointing out about rising film, television and digital sector in Victoria, it seems too fast to predict that Northcoteâs art sector also will thrive as well. She should be observing more carefully about the relationship between the community, art sector in the area and the Westgarth theatre.
