Comments Manzie states that there has always been a demand in Melbourne for foreign films, but this does not reflect the general public, who are more inclined to view films from Britain and Hollywood. Apparently, the 23 week screening of La Ronde had revived the appeal for international films in Melbourne at that time, as the Savoy Theatre went through a period following the war in which it showed more conventional and profitable films. More European films were to be shown following this renewed interest, such as Miss Julie, the first Swedish film to be screened in Australia. This trend was also being followed by the Australia Theatre.
