Comments The article mentions plans to open a specialist theatre for “European talkies” in Russell Street. It specifically mentions that it will be named the Savoy, and that a film society in Melbourne would be formed soon afterwards, of which entry was free. Mr. P Dawson said “Australia is to be given the opportunity of seeing some of the greatest productions of the screen, which although in a foreign language, have English superimposed, and can be readily understood by any audience.”

He did this based on the success of ‘continental’ film screenings in London and New York.
