Entry on the Lyric Fitzroy in the Cinematour website. Gives dates as being 1922-1952 which doesn't tally with CATHS dates of 1911-1938. As I have newspaper articles dating its opening to 1911 I assume CATHS is more accurate. Interesting to see that comparing the internal photographs from 2004 to the venue in 2011, no more structural changes have taken place since then. These images would have been taken when the building was being vacated by furniture manufacturer Jimmie Possum. |

Complete transcript:
"Opened as the Star Theatre, the original 1922 painted silent screen and part of the painted 'proscenium' were still visible on the wall when these photos were taken in March 2004. The building was just being vacated after being used as a retail furniture store. The circle and projection suite had been removed many years ago, and presumably there is a more elaborate facade beneath the external tin covering." |
