Comments This clip is also from the Argus newspaper. Clips and articles about the Regent Gardiner are almost exclusively in The Argus and the Malvern Standard. Thus it is safe to say that the audience is then the local community and the greater Melbourne area in the case of the Argus. This clip is important for a few reasons. Besides being a record of what films were shown at the Regent Gardiner and Hoyts other suburban theaters, it also is the first piece of historical evidence that links Regent Gardiner with the suburban circuit and is a peak in the way in which the films were distributed to the different locations. It shows the domination of Hoyts theaters in these suburbs as well as the clusters of theaters (by looking at different neighborhoods that the theaters were located in). Also, knowing the films that were being shown and using the date of publication, one can then see the timeframe of how long its takes films to progress to these suburban circuit after they are released. It also shows after a little research on the side of the films themselves, how Hoyts distributed the films and the area of priorities for the bigger and more popular films.
