Comments This small section of the book is a good reference to have as well as your own personal information as it reveals little facts here and there about the Roxy, that may not have been as easy to find before. Such as:

-Sandringham was proclaimed to be a city on the 21st March, shortly after The Roxy was build and opened for the public.

-There was an extremely strong rivalry between the Roxy and Hoyts Southern in Hampton

-Although difficult for an independent theatre to do due to lack of funds, The Roxy was upgraded in the early 1950's.

-The Roxy always had 2 choices of programs a week.

-There are no current theatre's in Sandringham anymore.

(Steph D.)
Synopsis Disney and Tarrant discuss the importance that The Roxy theatre played on Sandringham when it first opened in 1923. They talk about the flourishment that the Australian black and white films had on the community. They collect memories from two of the Roxy's old customers and the fond memories that they have and will always have associated with the cinematech. Disney and Tarrant also talk about how when the Roxy was finally demolished in the 1960's, a piece of the community and the lifestyle was lost. (Steph D.)
