âThe Culminating point of twenty years of effort and striving towards the perfect picture theatre â
The Park Theatre.â
This advertisement is for the Gala opening of the Park theatre (Saturday 24 December). It details
the performance programme â 'Alexander's Ragtime Band' and the feature presentation 'Highway Patrol.' An ad brief in text, but the half page image of the upper facade conveys the excitement and Hollywood grandeur they were clearly trying to elicit. It is as though we look up at the facade, a trick used to subtley elevate the subject and make it seem as though the reader is outside the venue already. Above the advertisement is an article praising the venue and its extra-ordinary design (for more information see âArt and Nature Attend the Film-goerâ). Between the two articles, the page contains two pictures of the venue, interior and exterior.
I did not find the advert itself to be helpful apart from finding out the programme of the opening night and discovering that it was indeed a big gala event. The juxtaposition of the two articles was much more interesting and I would advise anyone interested in the Park theatre to look up the online listing at Trove. |
