Comments While it explains a lot of the ongoing troubles surrounding the theatre opening, the article is full of legal jargon, such as 'order nisi' and 'writ of mandamus' – two key elements to the Hoyts appeal, which make it difficult to decipher and fully comprehend.

It is clear that the theatre faced majority opposition from the South Melbourne council, who were keen to block the permit by any means necessary. It needs to be read in conjunction with further information such as the details of by-law 223 and perhaps some transcripts of the council meetings. On its own it is one part of a larger picture and I found it only somewhat helpful.
Synopsis This newspaper article deals with what was at the time an ongoing debate about Hoyts plans

to build the park picture theatre at the corner of Montague and Dundas St, Albert Park. In particular it details the controversy and disagreements regarding a by-law that appears to be

misunderstood either by the council or the surveyor and is accused of being badly drafted.
