Comments The Camden became an important part of the social scene in Camden in the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s before its closure in 1963. Before the invention of television the local residents of Caulfield South would turn to the Camden not only for entertainment but for a social outing. Local resident Diana Kupke who lived ‘just down the road’ from the theatre when she was a child, remembers on her blog the many nights that she visited the Camden theatre with her mother when she was just a child. From these types of memories we can start to put together a picture of just how much a part of everyday life the film industry and local cinema was during this time. The Camden had such an effect on Diana that she still now talks about it in her blog (entry is from 2009). She has also provided a picture from when the Camden was still operating. Where we can see the cars lined up outside the front, creating a picture that adds to the frontal facade of a very prominent building in the area. (CathS)
Synopsis Diana Kupke’s blog has archived items going back for almost three years. She is adamant on the site that her writing is her for herself and does not accept any forms of advertising. Subjects range from day to day life, delving into old ,memories and stories from her occupation. (CathS)
