With positive comments on the picture quality and the movie being a crowd pleaser it would seem that the Australia cinema in 1966 was at it pinnacle. Bringing in sell out crowds and with positive press their success was at an all time high at this stage. It is interesting to see its deterioration between the 60âs and 80âs and how this may have happened. The décor of the modernised theatre was supervised by Melbourne Architect Ron Monsborough and the appeal of modernity is for patrons to be âwowedâ by their settings. It certainly seemed to have brought the patrons in was a successful move on their part. At the same time that this was happening the âCurzonâ cinema next door and the coffee lounge remained open for cinemas goers, needless to say there was a buzz around the establishment at the time. The cinema was certified to play what was seen as âimportantâ foreign films. As the theatre transformed it always had an interest in playing foreign titles however at this stage the films were extremely popular. When the cinema wasnât considered quite so modern may have been the turning point in its career. This may have been the time when other cinemas were installing the latest technology and had hype around them that the Australia Twin lost its edge.
