Comments The Australia and the Curzon cinemas have been renamed as the Australia one and Australia two, a part of the complex Australia Twin. This transformation of name is interesting as over the decades it kept re-inventing itself. It’s reinvention not only came in through their change of name but in what they screened and what crowds they brought in. The theme of ‘two cinemas under the one roof’ was inspired by an American practise. It is interesting to see what they were trying to achieve and if in fact they did by going forward with this. This article suggests that people who wanted to go to the ‘Curzon’ theatre would not go to Collins 270 as they thought that it only exhibited Australia cinema movies. This defining of who they are, was in hope that people would see the cinemas as unified and it would cause less confusion. The suggestion is that people were not visiting the cinemas as often because they didn’t know where it was. These factors such as bad marketing could have been influences in the final closing of the Australia Twin. It is important to see what they struggled with at different times and how they overcame and indeed if they did overcome these.

Synopsis This article is about the combining of the two cinemas to introduce to the public the ‘Australia Twin’. The article goes behind the reasons of changing the name as making it easier for patrons to put the two together and see them as a team. Many people assumed that they two were in different buildings.
