RMIT Greek Cinema Project Interviews â Part 2 is an interview from Peter Yiannoudes the subject of Greek Cinema in Melbourne.
He shares his life experience with readers, from his childhood and work experience in Cyprus, to finding a need for Greek films in Melbourne and creating Cosmopolitan Motion Pictures.
Cosmopolitan Motion Pictures was a partnership agreement between three businessmen who had a passion and love for cinema and the entertainment industry; this business had an unwritten rule of no family to be involved. In the end, Yiannoudes states that this was one of the reasons why the partnership separated.
In addition to this, Yiannoudes speaks of buying what was known as the Cosmopolitan Theatre on page 9 of the transcript, where he states that it was opened before the National Theatre.
This transcript provides a wealth of information; from the first film to be shown, the lengthy process of selecting and importing films from Europe, and also the advertising costs and processes involved.
This interview is a fantastic reference for researchers studying Greek Cinema and the theatres bought by Cosmopolitan Motion Pictures. Yiannoudesâ real life accounts of his life happenings are a real eye-opener for anybody wishing to find out more information on this man and his life story. Yiannoudes recollects every event in great detail, which provides readers with a vivid account of Greek Cinema and the lengthy processes Yiannoudes and his colleages went to in order to provide the Greek Community with a sense of their homeland and to socialise with other people within the Greek Community.
