    | SIR FRANK SELLECK | The idea of a drive-in theatre for the Gold Coast made headlines in the local paper when reporters discovered the then-lord mayor of Melbourne Sir Frank Selleck was one of the applicants seeking a permit to establish a facility. 
 When the Melbourne mayor's Burleigh theatre proposal was approved in September, 1957, it made front page news in The South Coast Bulletin.
