As title shows, this book consists of the history of footscray, including Barkly Theatre.
It says Barkly Theatre was advertising the new all- color, moving and talking picture âGold Diggers of Broadwayâ. âGold Diggers of Broad wayâ is comedy which is historical significant because the technique used in that film was new at that time. It earned a domestic gross of $3.5 million. (Wikipedia) Having shown such film means that Barkly Theatre was quite popular, so they could afford to buy high technology film from cinema company. This book does not explain how much profit this film made in Barkly Theatre, but I think it was huge. Overall, this book is much about the history oh footscray. There is not enough description of Barkly Theatre, which disappoints me. However, I got the information about the film which Barkly Theatre had shown. From this information, I could expect that Barkly Theatre was popular. It also helps me consider the research proposal. I think how the theatre promoted new film to public is interesting research proposal. At that time, the way of advertising is really different from present. ( Now: through multimedia, Before: newspaper, can be TV?) Therefore, it is worth searching it and it will be interesting comparing them.
