Technicoulouryawn.com has a really good article on East End 1-3. The article sums up the history of the East End1-3 quite nicely.
The article starts with the opening of My Fair Lady Theatre, which would later become East End 1, and the Embassy, which would become East End 2.
The My Fair Lady theatre, opened for public in 1964 with Warner Brothers, My Fair Lady. The film ran for almost two years. When My Fair Lady finished its run in 1966, the theatre was renamed The Palladium. In 1970, Village bought The Palladium, along with the Embassy. In 1972, both theatres were re-opened as East End 1 and East End 2. During this period, the East End Cinemas were labeled Village number 1 venues, and would be given Village finest products.
East End 3 opened a couple of weeks later.
The article has quite an extensive history on East End, but the most interesting thing, apart from the history, is its information on how Village managed these three cinemas.
Village used East End 1, to screen new release films, East End 2 for rare and difficult to find products, whilst East End 3 screened moveovers from East End 1 & 2 or films dispensed by the Greater Union.
The article also provides details on the number of seating and a screening details, a very good article to find basic yet extensive information on East End Cinemas.
