This book can be found in both the AFI library as well as RMIT central library. An interesting and informative book which mentions Thornhill's contributions to the emerging film industry in Australia and how the film Between Wars put Australian films into the international markets. |
Synopsis |
Pg.168 Commented about the first stage of Australian Cinema, from 1970-74 where the industry was establishing. But this was also the time where Australia lacks experienced talents, producers and directors. Thornhill was an inexperienced director at that time with limited film experience and was considered to have a bright future, which was not the case.
Pg.171-172 Mentioned Thornhill's Between Wars and how it was financially disappointing. But it also gave credit to the film saying that it was an important film in establishing that Australia could produce films adventurous in concept and scope. This was because Between Wars was ambitious and had attempted to engage a whole period of Australian history (1918-1941) and with important political and social issues of that time. The film was praised both abroad and at home for establishing track records although the film was not financially successful. |
