Comments |
This book is an historical overview of selected clumps of Australia's film history in chronological order. It offers critiques of a number of influential Australian films while also discussing the Australian appropriation and success of imported film texts.
I enjoyed this mix of focus as many other film texts often only discuss one particular countries film landscape ignoring the fact that film cultures in any given country are exposed to a range of international products!

Synopsis |
In this chapter, Lewis discusses the state of the Australian Box Office which he notes, is dominated by American comedy, teenage and sci-fi films.
He spends much of his energy exploring the John Hughes films in terms of their consistant themes, cast and aesthetics.
This chapter also offers an exploration of "Puberty Blues" which is concerned with Breresford's employment of an observational motif. Lewis found this focus detrimental to the central protagonist's character depth. |
