Comments The review doesn’t praise the film too much at all. Maslin doesn’t believe that the film deserves much credit at all yet takes a stab at the Australian film industry as a whole referring to the film as “another” undistinguished Australian film. Though the article is a brief analysis of the film it accurately dissects the film in way that would ensure that anyone reading it will have no desire to see ‘Between Wars.’ Maslin does however suggest that the main character was well casted but it was a shame that the film was so poorly scripted. The only other positive that Maslin points out is that the film may appeal to those in the medical profession, as the film features a few interesting medical procedures. It can be concluded that the article is severely unimpressed by the screenplay of the film. That said, Maslin points out that the script leaves characters rambling for long durations of time causing the audience to lose interest very quickly. The music score of the film is also referenced in the article, once again to the disapproval of the author. She is also particularly critical of the music being from the 1920’s era, and also suggests that the film stock appears to have aged badly. On the whole, Janet Maslin thinks very poorly of Michael Thornhill’s ‘Between Wars’ and could not be more critical on his ability to direct a film.
