Synopsis This newspaper article discusses the auction sale of the Astor Theatre St Kilda to St. Michael’s Grammar School, located next door to the cinema. Owner George Florence was happy to sell the property to the school, and made a deal with St. Michael’s headmaster Simon Gipson to continue to run the cinema in the evenings and on the weekend, with the school able to run creative arts subjects such as drama in the theatre during the day. Mr. Florence will stay on at the Astor as manager. The theatre was sold for approximately $3.8 Million.
