Comments By Louise Riddiford.

This article from Cinema Record is a very precise and factual document which comprises gathered information on all three theatres (Melba/Liberty/Odeon) including the Times Newsreel Theatrette which was located below the Liberty and then the Odeon (Page, F 2001, p.12). It would appeal to anyone wanting to know straight facts about how historical theatres functioned, how much they cost to build or run and about what sort of productions were being featured at that point in time. This article forms the basis for a lot of useful information that will go into my blog (mentioned in the synopsis). It is a detailed, coherent response that harbours interesting facts that would be difficult to locate elsewhere. End comment.

Synopsis This article featured in Cinema Record gives a basic overview of the Melba, Liberty and Odeon theatre. It also includes a brief statement about the Times Newsreel theatrette which was located underneath the theatres. The article gives an overview of the theatres using dates and many pitures and posters documenting the inside of the theatres and what productions were screening when. The article gives a very detailed description of the interior of all three theatres including what the seats, screens, curtains and plaster looked like, including how much money was spent re-designing and building each theatre.
