Comments This text includes brief Bio's of the cast and crew for the 2008 film 'Noise', along with statements by the director, sound designer, and cinematographer detailing their thoughts on the film, its meaning, how they became involved with the film, and valuable other facts that otherwise would not be known as they come directly from the productions crews mouths. Director Matthew Saville delves into what makes a man good or bad in this world, attempting to work out what factors in this world influence these polar opposites. The fact that the film was inspired by the Port Arthur massacre is revealed, and Saville states that the film is a direct response to this feeling of shock and overwhelming evil in this world. Cinematographer Laszlo Baranyai delves into the way Matthew Saville directed the film to be seen less as a stereotypical action film, and instead make it more like a psychological/emotional thriller – a slow burning film. He also explains the technology used on the film, which included 35mm format film, and incorrect colour temperatures on the film used to gain the films dark and monochromatic tone. Sound designer Emma Bortignon states how the film attempts to bridge the gap between the music and sound elements of a film.

The second half of the text is an in-depth interview with director of Noise, Matthew Saville, detailing how he became involved in film-making, the inspiration behind ‘Noise’, his approach to film making, the distribution process for the film, and how the script of the film was originally criticized for subverting genre norms and undermining audience expectations.

This text is intended for anybody interested in the film ‘Noise’, or an individual/student who is looking for the thoughts and inspirations for the film from important members of the production crew. It can be used to gather valuable knowledge from the production crew detailing things about the film that wouldn’t be found anywhere else. It gives one an insight into the films meanings, inspirations, and technical detailing. It doesn’t feature any media theory or overtly intelligent arguments, but solely the views and knowledge of the production crew on how they made the film, and how they were inspired to make the film. The text is extremely reliable as the words are straight from the mouths of those who created the film. It is a fantastic text in further understanding the inspiration and ideas behind the film Noise from its creators.
