Comments Although this report is British based, some conclusions are relevant to the closure of some Melbourne cinemas in the late 1950's, when television was introduced in Melbourne. It's not saying that cinema's closed down because of the introduction of television, but that it played a factor.
Synopsis A report written by William A. Belson, measuring television's effect on attendance in British cinema. He writes that television has produced a decline in cinema going. Television sets sales rose and cinema attendance declined. Belson reached these conclusions surveying 782 respondents.
