An interesting article as it examines most blatantly the intentions of the film as commercial venture with valuable quotes from Ken Hall.
|
| Synopsis |
Features the comments of Director Ken Hall, speaking of the merits of 'Thoroughbred' as a carefully calculated commerical venture, not intending to be an artistic or "highbrow achievement" but an entertaining film for the "ordinary everyday folk - that section upon which we all depend for our progress".
The technical challenges of filming are discussed, with praise to Heath for the daring close angle shots of racing horses and the sophisticated use of the rear-projector.
The cast are listed, and the editing descisions are mentioned in relation to story-boarding. Care is taken to warn the viewer that 'Thoroughbred' is not to be confused with 'standard' race dramas. The film's international prospects are prophetised. Cited in: Pike & Cooper, (1981:102)
